The Communication Authority of Kenya (CA) in partnership with the National Police Service has successfully conducted a raid in Eastleigh, Nairobi targeting unlicensed courier services. 9 suspects were arrested, and crucial evidence including parcels, receipts and consignment books were confiscated and will be used in court.

Unlicensed Courier Services

During the raids several businesses were found to be offering illegal parcel and courier services without licenses. These businesses are:

  • Al-Safa Parcel Services

  • Falcon Fastforward Parcel Services

  • Turkana Parcel Services

  • Ramadhan Parcel

  • Mandera Parcel Stores

  • Skyway Centre

  • Sharks Solution Parcel Services

  • Rahma Bus Services Limited

The suspects are being held at California Police Station and will face charges at Makadara Law Courts.

Legal Action and Penalties

This is part of the CA’s efforts to enforce the Kenya Information and Communications Act, 1998 particularly Section 67 which deals with postal services. According to this section:

  • Any individual or company operating without a valid license to provide parcel and courier services is an offense.

  • Offenders can be fined up to KES 200,000, imprisoned for up to one year or both.

Public Advisory on Courier Services

In light of the raids the CA has also issued a public warning to consumers to only use CA-licensed courier services. This means:

  • Security and reliability of parcel delivery.

  • Protection for consumers from unscrupulous operators.

  • Support for the growth of the courier industry in Kenya.

The CA reiterates the importance of compliance with regulatory standards in the postal and courier sector to protect both businesses and consumers.
