Safaricom has launched a new overdraft facility called Taasi for micro and small businesses using its Pochi La Biashara payment platform. Think of it like Fuliza for businesses, but with more flexible repayment options and higher loan limits.
This is part of Safaricom’s continued support for Kenya’s growing MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise) sector by providing easier access to working capital—the fuel that keeps small businesses running.
What Is Taasi?
Taasi is an overdraft product that allows small business owners to access short-term credit from Ksh 1,500 to Ksh 250,000 depending on their eligibility.
Unlike Fuliza which deducts the borrowed amount in one lump sum from your next M-Pesa inflow, Taasi offers partial repayments, giving entrepreneurs more breathing room. Business owners can choose to repay their loans over 14 or 30 days.
How Much Will It Cost?
5% interest for loans repaid within 14 days
7% interest for loans repaid within 30 days
No hidden fees, no extra charges. Just short-term credit to help small businesses manage cash flow, restock inventory or grab opportunities as they arise.
Who Can Use Taasi?
Only businesses that are using Pochi La Biashara, Safaricom’s dedicated payment solution for small merchants will be able to access Taasi. This platform is ideal for informal traders, hawkers, shopkeepers, and jua kali operators, as it separates business and personal M-Pesa transactions.
If you’re using Lipa Na M-Pesa, which is targeted more at mid-sized businesses, this product won’t apply to you—at least not for now.
Why It Matters
“Businesses play a big role in Kenya’s economy and impact our communities,” – Peter Ndegwa, CEO, Safaricom
Taasi recognizes the role of small businesses in Kenya’s economy. By providing quick and easy credit, Safaricom is helping entrepreneurs focus more on growing their businesses and less on scrambling for short-term funds. Good news for the over one million small businesses already on Pochi La Biashara.
MSMEs get a boost
Credit has been a major challenge for small businesses in Kenya, especially the informal ones. With Taasi, Safaricom is not just providing funding—it’s changing the way businesses work by giving trust and technology to the everyday entrepreneur.
