Metropol, one of Kenya’s credit reference bureau (CRB) service providers, is transferring its business operations, assets and some liabilities to two new entities: Geni 1 Kenya Limited and Geni 2 (Kenya) Limited.

According to a public notice dated April 11, 2025, Geni 2 (Kenya) Limited will take over the business currently run by Metropol Corporation Limited including credit collection, analytics, credit rating and related services. Geni 1 Kenya Limited will take over some of the functions of Metropol Credit Reference Bureau Limited.

“The transferee will only assume specific liabilities related to the transfer business and transfer assets from the date of the transfer,” part of the notice reads.

The full list of assets and liabilities being transferred was not disclosed but Metropol said some will be excluded as per agreement between the parties.

Metropol is currently licensed by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) to offer credit reference services to Kenyan banks and financial institutions. It is one of the three CRBs in the country alongside TransUnion (CRB Africa Ltd.) and Creditinfo.

The transfer is in line with an agreement signed in December 2024 and Metropol has invited concerned creditors to visit their offices within two months from April 11 to raise any issues related to the asset transfer.
