M-PESA Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Safaricom, has announced a significant investment of KES 46 million in healthcare services across all 47 counties in Kenya. This investment aims to benefit approximately 60,000 Kenyans through a series of medical camps that will provide essential health services and support.

The medical camps, funded by the M-PESA Foundation, will focus on various aspects of healthcare, including health information provision, the provision of medical equipment and drugs for general healthcare, screening for select non-communicable diseases (NCDs), dental care, eye care, and the management of diabetes and hypertension. These camps will play a crucial role in ensuring that individuals across Kenya have access to vital healthcare services.

The initiative will kick off in Lamu County, where the M-PESA Foundation has already invested KES 1,700,000.00 in drugs and surgical equipment to support the provision of healthcare. The Foundation recognizes the importance of collaborating with various counties to address healthcare challenges effectively. By implementing these medical camps, they hope to reach as many people as possible and improve healthcare outcomes for local communities.

Stephen Kiptinness, Chief Corporate Affairs at Safaricom, expressed the Foundation’s commitment to complementing other landmark initiatives aimed at addressing healthcare challenges in Kenya. Kiptinness emphasized the Foundation’s determination to continuously enhance their approaches to reach a larger population. The medical camps represent an avenue for achieving better healthcare outcomes for individuals in underserved areas.

Among the notable healthcare projects supported by the M-PESA Foundation is Daktari Smart, a telemedicine initiative in collaboration with Gertrude’s Hospital Foundation. This project provides specialist care to individuals residing in hard-to-reach and underserved areas of Lamu, Homa Bay, Baringo, and Samburu counties. With an investment of KES 168 million since 2021, Daktari Smart aims to provide over 32,000 children with access to specialist healthcare services.

Furthermore, the M-PESA Foundation’s reproductive health program, Uzazi Salama, is set to benefit over 90,000 individuals in Homa Bay County. The Foundation, in partnership with Flying Doctors, also operates a fistula program that has successfully provided surgery and treatment to over 400 women since 2021.

In addition to the medical camps, the Safaricom Foundation recently unveiled the renovated Kiwayu Dispensary in Lamu at a cost of KES 2 million. This initiative aims to further enhance access to healthcare services for the local community, ensuring that individuals receive the care they need.

The M-PESA Foundation’s investment in healthcare services across all 47 counties in Kenya is a testament to its commitment to improving the well-being of Kenyans. Through the medical camps and various healthcare projects, the Foundation is making a significant impact on the lives of thousands of individuals, providing them with access to essential healthcare services and resources.
