The M-PESA Foundation Academy recently celebrated the graduation of its inaugural cohort of students who successfully completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). A total of 40 learners were part of this cohort, and their journey through the program, which commenced in 2020, focused on nurturing their intellectual, social, emotional, and physical well-being to prepare them for higher education and future endeavors.

Upon their graduation, these 40 learners will enter the Uongozi Centre at the institution, where they will participate in various programs designed to equip them with essential skills and knowledge necessary for tertiary education. From June to December of this year, the Centre will offer career guidance, assist in technical institution and university applications, and provide ongoing support until the learners embark on their next phase of education.

The significance of this occasion was acknowledged by Mary Nyale, the Acting Executive Head of School, who expressed her delight in witnessing the first cohort graduate from the IBDP. She emphasized the Academy’s commitment to nurturing leadership skills in students, enabling them to become catalysts for positive change in society, which led to the adoption of this curriculum.

Established in 2016, the M-PESA Foundation Academy has admitted a total of 946 students from various parts of the country. In February of this year, 96 new students joined the institution. Since 2019, the Academy has sponsored 133 students to pursue higher education in renowned universities in the United States, United Kingdom, and Switzerland. Additionally, over 116 students have successfully secured placements in local universities and technical and vocational education training institutions (TVETs).
